Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 175°C. Grease and flour a 24 cm round springform pan.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the walnuts and chocolate, then toss with 1 teaspoon of flour and set aside.
  3. Sift the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt into a separate bowl.
  4. Beat the butter with a mixer for 2 minutes until it becomes creamy. Add the brown sugar and continue beating on medium speed for about 1 minute.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition until fully incorporated.
  6. Add the vanilla, carrots, and oil, and beat until just combined.
  7. Add half of the chocolate chips and walnuts. Then add the flour mixture and mix just until the dry ingredients are no longer visible. The mixture will be thick and not like a typical cake batter — that’s normal.
  8. Pour the mixture into the pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips and walnuts on top, then bake in the preheated oven. Check after 30 minutes. If it’s golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean, it’s done.
  9. Beat the powdered sugar and cream until stiff. Add the cream cheese and poppy seeds, and mix well. Spread over the cake before serving and slice to serve.
